In addition to running a linksys modem router I would implement a
utility like Router Rooter or LinkLogger. It allows you to see what's
going on with your router and who and or what is hitting it from the
outside.

RouterRooter is freeware found at http://routerrooter.perceptron.com/
LinkLogger is $21.95 found at http://www.linklogger.com

I personally use the linklogger system at home and it works very well,
they also have versions of the software for netgear and ZyWall modem
routers. It gives very detailed reports on both inbound and outbound
traffic and packets hitting the router.

Also don't forget even though your running through a nat firewall, also
harden your machines on the insideas well and run a personal firewall.
ZoneAlarm or Tiny work well. The latest firmware for the Linksys routers
supports ZA.
