Um, while you're laughing at those who would advise getting
rid of a (basically) completely insecure product in favor of
one which at least contains security mechanisms (even if you
do have to learn to use them), consider this:

Win98 will be EOL this summer. Once it is, the ability to
support it will be very limited, since the ability to get
support from MS will range from limited to non-existant.

I've already had some experience trying to support a product
that has no vendor support (it was a mail client -- and in
fact, the vendor didn't even acknowledge it existed any more).
It was an absolute nightmare. I wouldn't even want to consider
supporting an operating system under the same circumstances.

If it's known that Win98 will remain adequate for your needs
over the (fairly) long term, and that help from MS in supporting
it will never be needed, then keeping it and using one of the
provided suggestions to lock it down should be more than
sufficient. However, if that's not the case, then perhaps the
idea of moving to Win2k warrents further consideration.

If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand. :-)
