I agree that parsing and canonicalisation are 2 different aspects.

In the last 4 messages even if it was unclear and confused I was referring to 
parsing: e.g: that tools consider the given sequences as newlines when they 
parse the message.

I don't understand what do "cost of support" means. E.g: this proposed patch 
does not introduce any regression in the api and it would simplify implementing 
a better parsing strategy. I don't see performance implication in this patch.
