Robert, please help me. You keep repeating that we are loosing performance
because there are more copies. I don't really understand where in the patch I
submitted I introduce new copies/new buffers.
Please also note that this patch does not support CR yets. It simply simulates
the current behaviour in a different way so that it should be easier to support
CR later, if we want.
