The work/ directories are supposed to be cleaned up, and should not be used
directly.

There ought to be, if you're having a problem.
IIRC, I've successfully used the Connector/J jar in $JRE/lib/ext/, but I
tend to just place it in the SAR file. SAR files are just JAR files.
