I also tried james spamfilter some time ago, but it was not satisfying. I now use Spammassassin with James which works absolutely fine, I would suggest that.

Whenever I receive a spam message I forward it as an attachment to my server's spam address. However, this only works if your email client is setup to send to the James SMTP server. It probably won't work if your email client is setup to send email via your ISPs SMTP server.
