Validating HTML in the servlet

Hey.

Does anyone know of any generic validation api out there for validating data on
the backend in a  servlet ( received from the HTML )? I m looking for something
similar to what JavaScript does in the screens....

kinda like a " public boolean validateCurrency(String field) " set of methods...
