FWIW, there is a second edition of the O'Reilly Java Servlet
Programming book in the works; the author (Jason Hunter) is a fairly
regular contributor to this list, and he has recently posted updates
on how the second edition is going (check the archives).  When it
first came out, it was probably the best book on servlets (but of
course there were much fewer then, so he's got more competition now :-).

I haven't seen the Core Servlets book, but, as I recall, Marty Hall is
very well thought of in the Java community (especially online, like in
the comp.lang.java.* newsgroups), and his web page, which includes a
lot of information and resources on Java, is very well known and has
been around a while (back from the very early days of Java).  Here's
