Some ISP's require that you are connected from within their network to relay
mail via their SMTP servers.  Others require that you authenicate with their
SMTP servers before relaying mail.  Outlook Express can default to NOT
authenicating with the SMTP server.

With your @home account, try pinging the SMTP server(you might want to
contact their support to make sure that you have the correct name, and it is
sometimes different from the POP3 server).  It's not so much that you get a
reply, but if Ping can resolve the name into an IP address. You may have
simply mis-spelled the SMTP server name in your email client setup.

BTW, relaying mail means sending mail that is meant to be sent somewhere
else.  For instance to send to another user on the same ISP is not relaying
and the ISP would probably accept that message.  But try to send a message
to a user on a different ISP and it would get rejected.(My mail server is
setup that way.  It will accept any mail that is inbound or meant for a user
on my email server, but if you want to send to someone somewhere else, you
have to be authenicated(the POP3 user id and password are acceptable)).

This sounds like an email client problem and not an STN problem.

Hi there,

Probably this question is already asked before but i don't seem to find 
the correct answer for our problem.
We share an @home account with this beautifull prog called STN. All 
works OK, BUT we are not able to send any mail anymore (never worked 
acctually). From some ISP we can receive mail, but no reply or new mail 
is possible. They say 'we don't relay for you' in one case. In the other 
case (actual @home account) gets the messages 'no pop/smtp server 
found'.... DNS problems????
Please help us out or give us directions on previous supplied answers.
