Bear in mind also that some ISA PNP cards can be "fiddled" with by the BIOS even if
the card is in
non-pnp mode --- I've been caught out by that one before by a crappy BIOS that thought
it knew

Most drivers will scan along the PCI bus slot, by slot and ISA buses using a table of
preffered IO
addresses. But a PCI machine may have several PCI buses on different bridge chips so
the slot
ordering may not be as simple as it seems
