I have the PCV tool and recall the use of a Hot Rod but do not recall the time you can keep it in the shaft.

All you need is the PVC tool, shaft puller and heat gun. Remove grip, slip PVC tool over shaft down to crown of head, put in your shaft puller, apply heat and pull off head.  Ping hosel insert will remain in place on the shaft. Don't waste your time trying to remove and save the insert. Install a new one with the new shaft. You MUST clean out the hosel hole in the head very well. I use a Dremel Tool with a small gringing stone to remove ALL old epoxy.

Hot rod is only if the shaft broke off right at the top of the hosel. I beleive a waste of time if the shaft is graphite - graphite is a poor heat conductor so I would use a "screw" extractor if there isn't enough shaft to "grab" in your puller.
