Good point. If you are fortunate to live in an area where you can truly
escape light pollution, or that you can get away to such a place; I suggest
spending a "worthless"? night doing this.
A number of years ago I lived in AR for a bit, and with a 2 hour drive could
be in a location without notable light pollution. A truly remarkable
experience. The night sky isn't really black or grey, but a marvolous
palatte of colors. Truly awe inspiring. But all it takes is one fool driving
within a mile or so with their parking lights on and it is loss for a bit as
you are blinded with light.

JOHN:

Thanks for the stargazing tip - here in the mountains with our elevation
and no light pollution you can't believe how bright the stars and
planets are in the sky on a clear night. So since we are in the midst
of some very clear weather these days, I will be sure to take note of
your tip tonight. Thanks!!

TOM

Went for a walk tonight with my son and the lovely one and noticed a
few bright planets visible to the naked eye...thought it was unusual
and went to the Nasa site and turns out it's a fairly unusual
alignment of 5 planets and the moon that won't be back for 30 some
odd years in the night sky.
Check it out at

For some reason this stuff sends me for a loop (I just recovered from
that comet that blazed across the sky 6 or 7 years ago).
I'll go back to staring at my navel, now.
