I am playing 40 deg 8i, 45 deg 9i, 50 deg PW, 55 deg SW, 60 deg LW - all are set to D3.5 (or so) SW, so the SW and LW had to be drilled into the hosel to take weight out of them. I have paid no attention to what my swingspeed is in any club shorter than the 5i, and in reality it doesn't matter. I am dialed-in for my equipment. All of those irons are Taylor Made - the iron set is the 'old' forged MB's, and the wedges are the y-cutter model.
On the driver front, I'm using an R9 head from TM's tour dept. - 9.5 loft but the actual specs are: Loft 9.8, face angle 1.5 open, lie 58.9, weight 175.5 (this is without the insert) Our sponsor here has sold me a Project X graphite 8A4 shaft which is 7.0 flex with an x-stiff tip - that shaft in this R9 head set at either 'N' or between 'N' and 'R' (I hit it lower when set at 'N') is working fantastic for me. This shaft has displaced an Ozik tp-7 (x) which I was playing in the R9. From: owner-shopt...@mail.msen.com [mailto:owner-shopt...@mail.msen.com] On Behalf Of Harry F. Actually our set up is the following: 40* 8-iron / 44* 9-iron / 49* PW / 54* SW / 59* LW. All wedges constant length as the 9-iron. I hit my LW 60 yards and my oldest son (+ hcp) hits his LW 100 yards and he has a tour caliber swing speed. He is also a leftie. I do not know what his swingspeed is as he never wanted it checked. He says it is what it is and he couldn't care less what the real number is. His longest drive on the flats with no wind is 360 yards. His favorite wedge is the Vokey 254.10 but he can hit them all just fine, full or partial. I do not hate any clubs but I am not hitting my driver very solid. I haven't hit it solid for 2 years. I do not have a problem hitting quality shots with any other club in my bag. The rest of my set I absolutely love and have no plans on changing any of them over the next 10 years. > Driver - Callaway Ti 454 or PureFit V prototype > Fairway Metals - Ashton X1-D > Hybrids - Nickent Genex 3DX > Irons - Mizuno forged MX-23 > Wedges - Vokey Tour Satin > Putter - YES Natalie, BC-G wt. All of the above clubs I got discontinued and brand new for $800 CAD. Then I pulled the shafts and started over 'balanced & blueprinted' before a single club hit a single golf ball. The way I look at it is this, "the worst a club should play is the day it is new with the plastic wrap on the head". First of all I swing my driver at 105 mph. Not super fast but too slow either. My 5 iron at 95 mph. Now I don't know how fast i swing a 60 degree wedge but I can only hit it about 70 yards. i don't know maybe i do it wrong???? But to hit a 60 degree wedge 105 yards I would imagine you need a driver swing speed of about 120 mph. Not too many of them around outside the tour.
