So my trials and tribulations have not been in vain!   Glad that my
discovery has been helpful.

I found similar entries in dmesg etc. when I tried to access the
camera.  Would post some but not on that machine ATM.  Unfortunately
they weren't very helpful in sussing out the culprit.
