Norbert, I think it's perfectly fine for this discussion to happen here. This problem directly affects Shotwell (and affects a number of users!), so the more information we have, the better.

Thanks for reminding me These days, I'm spending a lot of time playing with xfce so have gotten a little rusty with gnome (which I haven't had to tweak in a long time).
