Hey guys, I've been lurking on the list for quite a while now, reading the posts and trying to learn as much as I can about unix/linux. Now I need to make the leap and finally setup my own *nix box. Please excuse the lack of knowledge about linux, we all have to start somewhere... :) On to the questions! I need to setup a simple unix/linux server to do a single task. All it has to do is take requests for certain domain names and forward them to other addresses. Simple enough, it seems. But the thing is, can it (apache I'm guessing?) forward the request to more than just another IP? Meaning, I have server space on UTS, so it would have to forward it not just to uts.cc.utexas.edu (i.e. 123.44.55.678) but to 123.44.55.678/~myusername. Can apache do this? Bind perhaps? Also, will it be a problem that the vhost server I want to setup will have a different IP than uts, where my files are located? The vhost server will have a static ip and an ethernet connection (in jester :) Ok, now that you know what I want to accomplish, here is another question. Which flavor of unix or linux will be the easiest to setup, configure, and maintain for this task? Solaris? Mandrake? It will be running on an old pentium 133 computer, 96mb ram, 4gb, ethernet... That's it! Hope to hear from you guys, and I do appreciate any help!
