Django's not bad.. Rails is not too ugly, although it seems a lot of
boilerplate, despite the coolness of knowing where everything is.

Been using node for a while, and to me its pretty clear that Node.js
[with, say, espresso] is the dogs bollix, and basically wipes the
floor with every other web framework in existence.

disclaimer : I am an obviously opinionated develop...BUT I have spent
a good many years writing things like CRM systems in Java.. and I can
honestly say that what took me 25 pages in Java I have done in a page
of Node.js/Javascript, and it runs faster, and is easier to read.

I would say Node has the usefulness of perl/php/python with the
performance of nginx with the xen clarity of lisp.

While Im enjoying this rant... I find it a bit surreal to see so many
PHP positions in Australia. We seem a bit risk averse.. but the whole
idea of a startup is to stay small, get high leverage and grow fast -
If your using Oracle instead of postgres/mysql your just doing it
wrong. If your using PHP, your basically holding good people back.

I just think any web startup would have a concrete advantage in both
quality of people and quality of code if they went Node.js for new
development ... There is a perception that PHP is more robust.. but
thats complete shit, more a result of herd mentality psychology than
the benefits of the language.

My point, and I do have one :], is that maybe move ahead of the game a
bit and instead of going from PHP to Rails.. just go the whole hog and
do it in Node.js - youll attract the elite developers in one fell
swoop.

cheers,

gord.
