It's the norm in the online ad business here in India. My guess is that any business sector that is in an aggressive growth phase tends to see shorter stints for individuals in organizations, probably because they are reluctant to let go of potential career growth opportunities. I think the string of short stints in IT would probably coincide with the mid 90s-early '00s, when IT/ITES was growing with almost cancerous rapidity.
