Xylitol is a sugar made from Birch bark.
It is actually a sugar alcohol, not a sugar. See

I'm sure Google can enlighten you.
Names can be deceptive, depending on how you perceive them.

good thinking, Dave thanks.
I think the disorder occurs whilst in womb even. The moulds may have
gone, but the damage is done to the gut lining which is slow to repair.
My boy has no sugar, except some jaggery/guar in cooking, which I
fond to be quite different- not even hurting my sensitive teeth or
requiring the same amount of frequent brushing as even brown sugar.
Not sure what the xylitol is, but not a nice name!
I think with atopic eczema, it's not like candida, although we take
special care with foods and gut healing.
Perhaps his infrequent and little unrefined cane juice is ok, rather
like fruit?
At age 4, he's starting to get much better after very slow but
looking back, definite improvement. A nightmare for all of us.

You might also look into sweetening with xylitol. It's known as a
good
anti-fungal and it doesn't feed Candida
like other sweeteners. CS is only mildly effective on any mold or
fungus, although it seem to stop it-it returns with a vengeance.

leaky gut has been shown to be caused in many by candida, a mold
relative. Since there are over 20 pathogenic fungi that have been
found in the human body, it could also be one of those. Anifungals
work for this, as do some other natural therapies. I am using CS for
this too.

Yes, I agree, moulds are the biggest culprit in all liklihood, like
he black moulds on damp old carpets and in modern buildings with
plastics, matresses etc.
Asthma and atopic eczema are in strong association, very often
co-joined (epithelial disorders, both - also where the eczema is
driven by leaky gut).

It is probably mold. In new zealand, they were able to stop a sids
epidemic, they found it was a mattress problem, specifically a mold
growing in it.
Astham can be caused by a fungi- coccydiomycosis (sp?) Valley Fever,
here
in the west, babies too. I am not sure about the eczema, but it does
seem
to be allergy related, and much of that is fungally driven. The mold
seems to do something to the immune system.
Drs do not seem to be looking at it as a possible cause.

Babies get atopic eczema at birth, and asthma: it's an epidemic,
but
not a virus. Explain that.
