No, not heard of any damaging effects, but I have none and did this for quite awhile since I had 3 or4 absesses at one time. One not sure about since the cap came off a root canal but we suspected (dentist and I). I had two pulled that day and never had the others taken care of and that was almost 3 yrs ago and they don't hurt. Wow, best thing that ever happened for me. I was trying to find some more cepacol but Wal mart no longer handles it here.

What Carol Ann mentioned about a swollen pocket sounds like infection in there so she will have to hurry and get that gone. I also took CS by mouth daily. but at that time thought I should only take a couple of tablespoons. I do make my own but since all the talk lately am wondering if I should change anything??

I read somewhere a long time ago that the alcohol in mouthwashes causes tissue damage over time.
Ever heard anything about that?
I use diluted peroxide, and my CS.
Might also look into info at Oramedia. I bought my husband a Viajet with cannula attachment for getting CS or water/peroxide deep into his gum pockets. But so far he hasn't used the cannula, too chicken. LOL

Cleaning all bacteria out of mouth and keeping clean is the answer. Do you have any cepacol mouthwash? If he can hold in the mouth for 5 min. and then spit out, is a tremendous help. Also, you can use Hydrogen Peroxide diluted a little with water. Any mouthwash with alcohol would help. LOL He doesn't swallow but that alcohol kills the bacteria.
