I often watch those shows as well, usually discovery or something similar.
I've come to the conclusion that its more about genetic make up and as you say, 
diet.
Did you ever see those Tibetans or remote village Africans smile for the 
cameras. Would beat
any TV tooth whitening commercial model hands down. Not doubt the nearest 
doctor or dentist is by plane ride.   Vitamin D and exposure to sun probably 
plays
as a factor as well.

No, I'm sure they probably didn't, but I would be
willing to bet lifestyle also played a big part in the
equation.  I seriously doubt they had access to coke
and sweets that we do today.  Diet would certainly 
play into it as well as personal hygiene? 

I will often watch trible life on tv and am most
curious about their eating habits.
