The technique they describe is called plasma gasification, which is not all that new. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasma_arc_gasification. The thermodynamics may be questionable. Note that they need to reach a target temperature of 7000 degrees centigrade, and of course that takes a lot of energy right up front.
