I use about 1,100 Hz (my original ran at 30 kHz).  It's possible the
change in frequency, as well as the voltage boost, enhanced the
effect.

I haven't used Beck's blood electrifier (I have the parts, just don't
have the motivation to spend the time making one).

Possible, I suppose, since the pulses in Clark's Zapper are DC.  I
thought the switching in Beck's device was supposed to be every 3-4
seconds (1/4 Hz, not 4 Hz).
