I am not convinced that small amounts of CS in a fish tank will destroy the biological filter. Once again we get back to the fact that CS is quite ineffective in solid medium. I believe, but have not confirmed, that there is a level of CS that will keep the tank healthy, even cure diseased fish, yet not impair the biological filter if it is working properly.
