Based on my reading, I would recommend extreme caution in using bone meal for ANYTHING, including garden fertilizer.
Bone meal was implicated in the mad-cow disease, and the bone meal itself may have some connection to this and to other prion disorders including CJD. I am not an expert or authority on this topic, but I believe my warning is appropriate. If I am not correct, I apologize for it, but I think that because all parts of the cow may bet mixed up in bone meal, it may be quite dangerous. I myself am even leery of geletain capsules, and am eagerly awaiting the introduction of vegetable-based caps. Hope those come along soon . . .
