I guess they were talking about systemic silver of any description,
rather than GI silver.
Do you recall that it is said that Roman soldiers would continuously
swallow and recycle a silver coin, in order to protect themselves from
disease.

It is clear that it is the quantity of silver, rather than the type
administered, that causes Argyria, don't you think?
