As my children have pointed out, the correct way is " and to the
Republic for which it stands".
As much as some people want it to be a democracy, its not. Never
intended to be by our founders.

I know this is off-topic but just a quick reply - this is supposed
to be a democracy and freedom of speech and differing points of
view are "legal". And different points of view don't mean that
one is not patriotic or that one doesn't support the troops.
