Ken, Nope, haven't tried discarding the first cup or so, I'm running the distiller now, having boiled the water for abut 5 to 7 minutes without the lid first per Ole Bob. I have also stopped cleaning with H202 and vinegar (in sprayers) for a while, as the gen is not really open to the air, it doesn't seem likely that could be the cause, but you never know..... Did check to see if the yellow CS correlates with phase of moon, but found it doesn't. paula
