I was able to use a software called Baton Mail a year or so ago to overcome this when my ISP suddenly started requiring SMTP Auth to send. http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/11442 As I recall, you set this up with your SMTP Auth information, and then [EMAIL PROTECTED] sends to that locally and it sends to whatever you're sending to with SMTP Auth.
