I also know people on these lists and elsewhere who know enough cognitive science to pass judgement on the technical aspects of his comments during the aforesaid incident on SL4: these people are of the opinion that his understanding of the issues actually under discussion on that occasion was risible.
Richard, am I reading you right when I'm interpreting you to be saying that there are several distinguished cogsci professionals who have read Yudkowsky's writings and have serious disagreements with his major points? If so, could some of them be persuaded to briefly sum up their major points of disagreement, even anonymously if they don't want to get personally involved? The more people that are involved in debating points concerning Friendliness, the better - and even if those people wouldn't actually get involved personally, just having their criticism on record could be useful for people trying to tackle the issue. (Personally, I can't help but find Yudkowsky's writings consistently brilliant, so I'd quite curious in hearing reasons for why serious professionals would consider him a nutcase. And yes, I've read the SL4 war, but hearing more opinions from people not actively engaged in these circles would still be interesting.) -- http://www.saunalahti.fi/~tspro1/ | http://xuenay.livejournal.com/ Organizations worth your time: http://www.singinst.org/ | http://www.crnano.org/ | http://lifeboat.com/ ----- This list is sponsored by AGIRI: http://www.agiri.org/email To unsubscribe or change your options, please go to: http://v2.listbox.com/member/?member_id=4007604&user_secret=7d7fb4d8
