I'm just guessing you placed the "classroom" lines in an extension range that is unique (different) than other lines, like main office, nurse, etc.? I'm not sure you can do what you want with a dialplan. I haven't given it much thought, but if it were addressable via dial plan, then it would be easier if the extensions were in a defined range. I'm not aware dialplans can be addressed to inbound calls. What gateway are you using to connect to the PSTN? This functionality IS configurable at the user schedule (make a schedule and define the period)User>Schedules Then call forwarding to "8+line_number" during that schedule as "at the same time". Hitting "Do Not Disturb" (polycom, as an example) allows this to be under user control, so the teacher could choose to answer calls during a work period when students are not in class. The user can also modify their schedule(s) to allow ringing in certain time periods so they can accept calls around classtimes.
>>> Jon Aker <ja...@mvwsd.org> 08/18/09 12:17 PM >>> We just finished migrating from an old 3Com nbx system to sipxecs. This is a school district and on the old system it was configured so that dialing the 4 digit extension for a classroom during the school day would go straight to voicemail. If you entered a * and then the 4 digit extension it would call the classroom. I am trying to setup the same functionality in sipxecs and it does not seem to be working as I expect. I have created two dial plan custom rules. The first rule matches a * and 4 digits in the dialed number and the resulting call is just the matched suffix. The second rule matches the 2 digit prefix for the classrooms and then 2 digits and the resulting call sends it to voicemail directly. I expected that if I dial *xxxx it would match the first rule and call the phone, but instead it seems to match both rules and goes straight to voicemail. I have tried swapping the order of the rules, but that does not seem to make any difference. Does anyone having suggestions? Or maybe a better method to create the same functionality?
