Yes - I was confused about why then mentioned T.38 as well - it's not going to
IP at all - but I just figured they knew what they were talking about...

You figure Xerox would have a pretty good handle on faxing...maybe not so
much...

Additionally... why are they even talking about T.38? Aren't you going to
them on an analog connection?

I agree "partially" with Xerox. ANYTIME you have (essentially) code/decode

IF IT WERE ME, and it is not...

1. Create a rule in the patton for the #'s for the FAX to send directly to a
sip fxs gateway with t.38 (think smartnode 4500 series).

Plug the fax directly into the FXS port. Make sure the FXS port is set to use
t.38 for fax.

2. Create a rule in the FXS to send all calls out to the PRI directly. Make
sure the PRI sends this out a ISDN (not siptrunk) connection from this
user/users.

Be done with it.

All - anyone care to comment on the below emails from our Xerox reps? These
fax machines are plugged into analog lines on our old NEC switch. The NEC
switch has a PRI which goes into a Patton PRI Gateway - which is sending the
fax calls over our Verizon PRI. We are having issues with faxes in and out
over a PRI óPatton óNEC óFax machine.

I was under the impression that faxing shouldn't have any problems when going
strictly thru a PRI. Any recommendations? I do have some fxs gateways I can
try if anyone things that would help - that would remove the NEC part of the
equation.

Nathaniel

All........Faxing via ISDN is not a supported method natively on the devices
installed.....Our new WC 7120 and Xerox color 550/560 support Fax over IP on
the device.
Needs to be T.38 compliant...

T.38
A protocol used to control FAX transmission across IP network in real time
between existing fax terminals. It is also required for FAX transmission
between IP network and existing PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network).

For other Xerox equipment, there is a DCTips PDF on our Customer tips site
(http://www.office.xerox.com/support/dctips/dctips.html) with instructions for
Faxing over IP Networks. That's attached

As for confirming what Engineering said, I'd be inclined to agree with them....

USA First Team:

Please read the email from one of our Xerox CSE and come back to confirm his
findings. Phone lines in this area have been switched over to ISDN. Can you
confirm that in fact the embedded fax modules are not supporting ISDN? Please
do a "reply to all".

Thanks,

Steve Gray, OSS

Leesha, I picked up a call on a 5655 at Garrett County Courthouse. This
machine is in the services office, and I spoke to Debbie - the "manager" of
this office. She also heads up the phone systems, and general hardware and
systems. Anyhow, they are experiencing problems with faxes not being received,
being paused when sending, etc.. She said that they recently (August)
switched all of their phone lines over to ISDN. This is a digital network
which is not supported by Xerox for embedded fax options, in this product
family. I called engineering, and they spoke to this, saying that the only
line supported, as spelled out in customer expectations, is an analog line. Now
what ???? Supposedly all of the county govts. lines are now ISDN. There is
absolutely nothing we can do to make the faxes work. The engineer was not sure
if there is any other product family that supports ISDN for faxing. Any ideas
?? The only phone number that I have is for Amy Baker, but she can transfer
over to Debbie - 301-334-1928. Machine ( at least this one, out of many )
serial # is WTD732748. Let me know what you find out, if anything.
