$ mdimport -d 1 -n /path/to/a/file.pdf

So it is PDF.mdimporter I guess.

Well, this is bad news. I didn't know the native pdf implementation of  
osx was so bad, I'm sorry to hear that. Still, Skim is way better  
(lighter!!) than Reader =)
