I try to support JAWS versions back through 6.0, but any more, I rarely manage to test anything personally that's older than JAWS 9. I have to rely on others to tell me of problems in older versions.
Sometimes, there will be limited or different functionality of a feature in an older JAWS version. For example, at least at the moment, it looks like the next release of the Skype scripts will improve JAWS' ability to read the Help/About panel, but that will only work for JAWS versions 7.0 through 10.0, not for JAWS 6.0 through 6.2. This is because I had to use a feature that was made available in JAWS 7.0 for the first time. Older JAWS versions will still read the panel, but for the moment, it will sound odd because JAWS will announce HTML tags interspursed with the actual text of the box.
