The commands to read chats, alt+numbers and letters, are the same in
3.8 and 4.1. The scripts are different for 3.8 than for 4.1 though.
Make sure you have the right scripts from my web site,

The version number for the latest 3.8 scripts is 652a. The latest for
Skype 4.1 is 4.1d, as in delta. Insert+Q should tell you the script
version you are using.
