Hi Thanks, Inamuddin, for your advice. In answer to your question, I used the ordinary SkypeSetup installer, not the full one. Since I wrote my email earlier about my problems with the latest version of Skype, I found out from a friend on Twitter that Skype 4.2.0.187 was the most recent version of Skype where automatic updates could be disabled, so I have temporary installed that version. However, I will use the link to get the full Skype version sometime soon, in the hope that the new installation will make Skype behave correctly and stop dropping calls.
