You can use whatever compression method you like over ISDN, as ISDN is just
a bit-pipe.

However, the routers used for Telstra's Big Pond Direct services do not
support any compression methods.

For the record, I use a really simple single card ISDN board that uses the
HiSax chipset.

Cheap, cheerful, and works like a charm for about $300.
