the "disable encryption on the NT machine" problem won't stop you
seeing the machine in the browse list
its probably a WINS confusion. on the NT machine, try doing a "find
machine" and see if that can find you linux box (i presume all your
boxes are on the same broadcast net, and that your linux servers only
have one (non-loopback) interface). most likely, more than one machine
thinks they are the browse master. now you get to play with "os
level", WINS server settings and rebooting machines until they reach
an (un)stable equilibrium.
failing all else, work out who you want your WINS server to be and
force everyone else to agree with that. (ie. avoid browse master
election all together)
the nmb logs can be very helpful
