Agree, not like RH6.0 where it spends forever formatting drives
& copying 100's of MB from the CD, and THEN tells me it cannot find my
network card, or disputes whether I really have a 3 button mouse or not.
Then as you repeat & repeat the install, you find niceties like if you say
no to formatting, the scripts get confused when they find existing packages
on the drive, and hang, or go round in circles about mouse options,
or claim not enough disk space (becuase the existing copy is using it).
Finally after about 6 reinstalls I accidentally discovered that it did not
like me entering the n/w I/O addr in assembler format 280H, and would
only work if I entered it in C format 0x280.
Yes I kicked myself, this is obvious I guess, but nothing indicated what
format to enter in decimal, hex, octal, which notation for hex, etc etc.
No errmessage was given to indicate unacceptable format.
RH5.2 autodetected the same card with the correct settings, so no need to
enter.
My point is that surely an install script should
first detect/ask the h/w config, and only then,
do the format and install. RH seem to have it back to front.
