I have no idea if they have a Linux version of the software they sell with
their UPSs, however the "Smartmon" package which they are agents for has
been compiled for 7 different Unix systems including SCO as well as some
Microsoft OSs, so they should've ported it to Linux by now.
Their range of UPSs goes from tiny to humungous, and if you use the Smartmon
software in conjunction with it, the monitoring bit just hangs off one of
the serial ports.
Work out your power budget first, and how long you want it to run for.
That'll give you your VA rating. Then go browse their website (eg
http://www.upsonic-power.com.au/ ) Also look at the Siemens UPS (can't
remember it offhand) and the Sola Basic people. Try google for some others.
I'm getting about half an hour of battery life on one server, and an hour on
another (different configurations).
Pick a model that has real line filtering if you want to use it in a
sandstone area or an industrial area. :-)
