Presumably you are looking for something widely used and well supported?

Two I'd recommend are Big Brother and Mon. Big Brother, unfortunately
has Free Software -- it is free as long you as you don't try to sell
it. Mon isn't too bad; although it requires some knowledge of SNMP
(which I only have a little bit of) to monitor *everything*.

It basic scripts will take care of a lot thoug. Mon is used at Transmeta
so it isn't all bad.
