Terry,
The fastest, and simplest way to secure sendmail would be to disable
sendmail receiving mails (remove the -bd) and install smtpd. I can
provide you with a good example config script for smtpd that will block
all of the known spam holes.
I had to do this for one server I run where upgrading sendmail was not an
immediately viable option. This server had also been blacklisted by ORBS.
