There is a very interesting package called sql ledger, details at http://www.sql-ledger.com/ This is an online, web based accounting package (free in all senses). It strikes me that people make a living setting this up, tailoring etc. I don't know your skill level, but if you spent some time looking at this, trying to set up yourself, evaluating as an opportunity .... Just a thought, I may be wide off the mark as to where you are heading. Just switching holus bolus to IT without regard to what you've done before may be the hard way.
