OK for Xmas received a copy of the Jet CD Get Born, but having placed it in my PC to play I find out it is copy protected. Is there a way around this so that I can play these CDs (Mandrake 9.1) or do I just ring up EMI and abuse the shite out of them.

Get the receipt from those that got it for you and return it to the retailer. It's important that the retailer loses $ on copy protected CD's and knows that the consumer is rejecting them and for what reason. If 10,000 people did that this xmas the retail chains would notice something.

It was pleasing to see Richard Stallman writing in about copy protection in "Communications of the ACM", Sep 2003, 46 (9) and others writing in as well. But the best medicine for retailers is returning CDs that dont play - you just have to keep it up.
