Here is an example of some of the costs AND benefits as they
relate to WISPCONs
EarlyBird FULL CONFERENCE registrations
Normal = $495
With a vendor discount coupon you can get in for
$395
With a vendor discount coupon and P15 membership you get in
for $345
Also, You'll get an additional $10 off your hotel room each
night that you stay at the conference hotel. (Usually 3 nights and therefore $30
savings)
Also, P15 members staying at the conference hotel will
automatically be entered into a drawing to win two free round trip American
Airlines plane tickets. There are some more rules on this (blackout times etc),
but this is a really cool addition to the raffles and other
give-aways.
If you've never been to a WISPCON, you are in for a
rude-awakening. They are very intense and usually the biggest problem for the
attendees is that it is like going to Disneyland and trying to do everything in
one day. There is just not enought time to get to each important session that
you need to. Also, you may want to ask around regarding the type of educational
benefits of the WISPCON as compared to other conferences. I think we are the
only conference that has rules for the speakers. They basically say that the
people are there in the session rooms to learn technical and administrative
information so leave all the marketing stuff on the exhibit floor.
I highly suggest you chat with others who have been to a
WISPCON. As a WISP myself, I find the training at WISPCONs most excellent and
you'll find me sitting in many of the sessions that I too need to learn. I think
this is one of the better parts of WISPCON, I am a small WISP too and I'm very
familiar with the needs of a WISPs. I fight interference on a dialy basis. I
need to approach local governments for tower necessities, I sign roof-top
rentals all the time, I have to climb towers so my safety and the safety of my
other climbers is very important to me. I would like to expand farther into my
rural areas and could also use some of that RUS funding. I'm right there in the
trenches with the rest of you.
I don't believe anyone has ever said that they didn't get
their money's worth out of a WISPCON.
