Michael,
One thing that I think some of us would like from a WISP alliance would be to knock down some of our costs, whether on equipment or leasing broadband lines. Can part-15 offer something like that?
Also, another nice thing would be to have "roaming" agreements between WISPs so that a WISP customer in Dallas for example could come to my area in NYC and get coverage during his/her stay. I would imagine such a feature would be a surcharge for the service paid by the customer. How about figuring out a plan for that which is fair and simple for all involved?
Lastly, as Earl mentioned, (I'm paraphrasing and filling in spaces - sorry Earl if I just butchered your meaning!) it would be nice for an alliance to bring in some money for its collective members from the government to actually help us out in installations, etc.
That's the kind of things I was thinking of regarding an alliance. If part-15 can do this, well then that's great! If not, I'd be willing to start one myself. Anyone interested?

Here is an example of some of the costs AND benefits as they relate to WISPCONs
EarlyBird FULL CONFERENCE registrations
Normal = $495
With a vendor discount coupon you can get in for $395
With a vendor discount coupon and P15 membership you get in for $345
Also, You'll get an additional $10 off your hotel room each night that you stay at the conference hotel. (Usually 3 nights and therefore $30 savings)
Also, P15 members staying at the conference hotel will automatically be entered into a drawing to win two free round trip American Airlines plane tickets. There are some more rules on this (blackout times etc), but this is a really cool addition to the raffles and other give-aways.
If you've never been to a WISPCON, you are in for a rude-awakening. They are very intense and usually the biggest problem for the attendees is that it is like going to Disneyland and trying to do everything in one day. There is just not enought time to get to each important session that you need to. Also, you may want to ask around regarding the type of educational benefits of the WISPCON as compared to other conferences. I think we are the only conference that has rules for the speakers. They basically say that the people are there in the session rooms to learn technical and administrative information so leave all the marketing stuff on the exhibit floor.
I highly suggest you chat with others who have been to a WISPCON. As a WISP myself, I find the training at WISPCONs most excellent and you'll find me sitting in many of the sessions that I too need to learn. I think this is one of the better parts of WISPCON, I am a small WISP too and I'm very familiar with the needs of a WISPs. I fight interference on a dialy basis. I need to approach local governments for tower necessities, I sign roof-top rentals all the time, I have to climb towers so my safety and the safety of my other climbers is very important to me. I would like to expand farther into my rural areas and could also use some of that RUS funding. I'm right there in the trenches with the rest of you.
I don't believe anyone has ever said that they didn't get their money's worth out of a WISPCON.

I understand. Sounds pretty good when you look at it that way. What does the WISPCON cost to attend the full thing?

$495 is for Affiliates. Affiliates were designed for WISPs where 5 or more employees can all take advantage instead of paying $195 each.
So if you have 7 employees who could all benefit from membership isn't that a reasonable price? $1365 for individual memberships of these 7 employees or $495 for all of them.

No, I am saying that $495.00 is Too much. To me anyway. I have not seen the programs you offer, so I would not be inclined to pay the fee. However, If I had the time to look over what you offer, I might sign up as an individual.

Are you saying that the $195 for annual membership (which you'll get back most of that by the discounts at WISPCONs and other training), is too high?

I am sure for it!!! We serve some really small communities, and would love to form an alliance, I would like to see it targeted more toward the small guys.
