I actually do PAT for the majority of my clients and those that need
static PUBLIC IP's, I do NAT. 2 reasons really...one you mentioned and
the other for security.

Thanks for the info on the routers...I really want to start doing this!
I have found that the clients using routers NEVER have to reboot their
device due to locked Ethernet and if you look at the Ethernet stats, the
collisions and lost packets ARE WAY DOWN on those with routers.

Good deal all around.

Subject: RE: [smartBridges] OT: Pricing Plans?? -- Router

Are you doing NAT? If not, static IPs will be a pain in your butt when
it's
time to move to a new IP block. I'm running DHCP, but handing out
specific IPs
based on their PC's (router's) MAC. I can change them at will w/o
needing to
make a truck roll or talk someone through the process over the phone.

I don't remember the particulars about the Belkin. Just didn't care for
it too
much. I do like the DLinks, and when I bought them, the clerk printed
out a
rebate for each unit. Dunno if I'll actually get them. I'm sure DLink
has my
address memorized by now. I run rebates quite a lot.

Did you see the Siemens router on TigerDirect?

It's a single-port so you'll still need a hub or a switch. But the price
is
hard to beat. I've got 3 of them and they work fine for me.
