And right now MANY ISPS have shut down ICMP all together due to the worms that are going around and who knows when they will turn them back on..

That currently is my major problem because there is no good way to watch for it.  I cant put my clients pcs into my IP-tools ping list because if they have firewall software it ignores icmp.

I have noticed that as well a few times a week if not more a client calls to say they cant log on I see wireless traffic and I see the ABO trying to send TCP IP traffic on the lan but nothing coming back and we do a reboot and bang works like a charm..

I just had another one go down customer called and had to reboot to get the radio to associate he does not have a router yet either to I sent him the simple status to try and see if that fixes his problems..

The problem we have seen is that the AB is associated, we can log in remotely but the client cannot pass traffic from the Ethernet side to the radio side.  We reset the AB remotely and then they are on.  Im not sure this utility will help us. I am also wary of putting any software on my clients machines, they do enough damage on their own. Im going to set up a cron job to send the snmp reboot to all 100+ of my ABs at 3 am.

We did not implement watchdog timer feature in the hardware, however we have included this feature in our new firmware 1.4j.8 and 0.01.07.

We also have a (simple reset) smartbridges utiltiy called simplestatus and this utility for the airBridge, to be installed on the client end. You can set the time interval

to  check the association. On wireless link and if it is not associated to the AP, it will automatically reset the aB.

The client PC should be running this software at back round screen.

You can download the simpleStatus 090 at http://www.smartbridges.com/beta/utility/simpleStatus090.exe

If any one interested, please try this software and give us your feedback.

  Thank you

If thats the cause why is it not working? maybe we need to focus on that if in fact they do have a watchdog timer in the units already? but from my past conversations about the effectiveness of the simple status and explaining this type of feature "watchdog timer" should be in the firmware I got an answer of hmmm we will look into it.. So to me that would indicate it is not in there already?

Sb can you confirm??

Thanks

It has been in there since the product was released. The watchdog timer is a hardware implimentation that preforms a hard reset when the firmware quits responding.

Why doesn't SB software people consider a watchdog timer in the firmware we could set on/off and time between boots ? It would reboot the SB device if it were not associated for xx mins. We could set this feature on or off and set the xx mins time. Not hard to implement, and it might help with the rebooting need.
