I repaired these things for a while back in '92 or 93.  800 mhz allows 600 mw for a handheld and 3 watts for a mobile or bag phone.  Cell sites are limited to 40 watts at 800 mhz.  I'm not sure what 1.9 gig limits are.

Most modern cell phones (hand held) are 100mW or less.

I wouldn't think so... Microwave Oven's are MUCH more powerful than these
radio's are. You have to be in close proximity to them before they effect
your pacemaker.

Microwave oven's are also nortious for not sealing correctly. You can pick
up the energy given off from a Microwave oven for 300+ meters easy.

Would I be worried about them for the general public.. no... Would I be
worried about standing infront of a 24dbi gain ant with a 1 watt amp on
it... hell yeah...

Just my thought on it.. the SB stuff (well, anything within FCC reg) just
dosn't give off enough power to worry about it... heck, cell phones have
more power. Their what? 1/2watt? 1watt?

M concern comes from exactly what you pointed out: Nearly everyplace you
go that has a microwave oven in use, there is a warning on the door
stating something to the effect of:

"Pacemaker wearers: Warning: Microwave oven in use on premesis"

Or something close to that. So I got to wondering if these radios would
have the same affect.

Does the elderly have any problems with microwave ovens ? If not then
they are safe and no issues.

FYI Micorwave ovens run in 2.4Ghz and if you not seen it they can
cause REALLY high interference in 2.4Ghz. For example when I sit at
the dining room table (20' from our microwave oven and 20' from our
AP no obstruction to either) as soon as someone runs the microwave
oven I lose connection to the AP.
