I am using aPPo's at head-end. I use an aPindoor back to back with
aPPo's for repeater locations. I use aBoutdoors and aBindoors at client
locations (some aPPos in CB mode).

Still purely sB equipment. They have always treated me right! They
sure make me work a lot though (troubleshoot the crap out everything).
At first I enjoyed doing this extra bit of troubleshooting...it was a
learning experience for me. Once you get used to using sB equipment
(its little quirks) it is AWESOME...especially for the price.

However, if you finally figure it all out...and then perfect an
installation method...and all works well...then one day it just CRAPS
OUT...and not on just one unit...but 90% of the new installs....I don't
want ANYONE to tell me to troubleshoot it. Sure...ask me a couple
generic questions like, "Have you changed anything?" But then just say,
"Hey Sully...we know that you know what you are doing, and since you
haven't changed anything (method, equipment, etc), then we must have a
bad batch of equipment."

Troubleshooting problems that are NOT due to my negligence is VERY
costly. Removing and replacing units is VERY costly. Paying for
shipping on RMA units is VERY costly (especially all the way to
Singapore). Having pissed off customers spread the word about my shitty
service is VERY, VERY costly.

I guess you get my point...

Sully

Sully,

What are you using now? Is it more expensive? I have a few customers
who
are using SB indoor and they work on and off but my customers are
techies
and want this to work in our small town so they don't fuss to often.

I can only assume that your unit is the old (firmware fixed) unit. I
don't believe there were any hardware fixed units out there until last
week (with the powder coated mounting bracket).

So...you may still have a crappy old one.

But...if I were you, I would switch as well. If these new units fail on
me, I am done with sB. I absolutely can not afford to lose a single
customer now. I also cant afford to have my reputation fall any lower.

I will pay whatever is necessary to have a reliable head-end.

So far though...the new hardware fixed units are working well.

Sully

I'm not sure Sully. I was unable to get into it to see the MAC. It's one

of the RMAs I got from EC about three weeks ago. I followed the
instructions I was given and upgraded the unit, waterproofed it, etc. It

ran fine for two weeks with no users on it. I added one user and it
worked
still. So I added another one the day before yesterday. it worked about
36
hours and then crapped out.

Teletronics makes an outdoor unit that I'm going to replace this APPO
with
to see how it works. The Teletronics CPE units I have been using are
working great. One of my customers doesn't have clear line of sight
(though he's only about 300 yards from the AP). I went through four ABI
trying to get him reliable signal. I finally climbed up and put a
Teletronics radio on for him and he's happy as a pig in the mud now, and

can pass 2 MB consistently.

The Teletronics APs put out 100 mw or 200 mw, depending on which you
order
(as opposed to the 60 mw I'm told SB stuff puts out.) They also cost
about
$446.00, but when I have to pay $330.00 for an APPO, then $300 a pop to
have it replaced (three times on one of my access points) you can see
where it would be cheaper to buy the Teletronics to begin with (assuming
they will work as well as the CPEs have worked for me.) I could have put
up four Teletronics access points for the cost of one APPO access
point given the labor charges I've had to pay to replace faulty APPOs.

I hope the Teletronics will work as well as APPOs *used* to.

I'm fixing to find out.
